About me

My name is Paul McBain. I am from Scotland. After travelling a lot and working for some educational charities, I did my MA at the University of Chicago and my PhD at the University of Pennsylvania. I am a historian of religions who focuses currently on Thai Buddhism, but particularly Buddhism as understood through art and literature. I work a lot on the nineteenth-century, but I am also interested in Buddhism’s expressions in the twentieth century. I currently teach at Thammasat University in Bangkok.
